The story behind New York City Tutor
We're a New York City tutoring service built on a simple belief: the right tutor, matched to the right student, changes everything.
Families come to us at very different moments — a student who has quietly fallen behind in math, an eighth grader staring down the SHSAT, a junior trying to turn a good transcript into a realistic college list. What they have in common is wanting someone who will actually pay attention to their student. That's the whole idea behind New York City Tutor: match the right tutor to the right student, build a plan around the goal in front of them, and be honest about how it's going.
What we do
New York City Tutor connects families across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island with experienced one-on-one tutors. We cover everyday subject help, standardized test preparation — including the SHSAT, SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, Hunter exam, Regents, and AP tests — and admissions guidance for private school and college. Sessions run in your home or live online, on a schedule that fits a New York family's week.
How we're different
Plenty of services will send a tutor. We focus on sending the right tutor, with a plan built around the student in front of us. That means a real consultation before we match, specialists for high-stakes exams, and the honesty to tell a family when something needs to change. Our aim is never to make a student dependent on tutoring — it's to build the confidence and skills that let them work on their own.
